Shadow Secretary of State for Rural Affairs 2003 -,  Private Secretary to Charles Kennedy 2001- 2003, spokesperson on Disabilities 1999-01 and Fisheries 1997- . 

Born in 1958 in Mullion. Schooled at Mullion Cury and Helston, Sussex and Oxford University (Agricultural Economics). As Deputy Director of Cornwall Rural Community Council, a charity supporting community needs, he worked as a development worker and research consultant. He was the first person to use Cornish in the Commons, in 1997. President of the Council for Racial Equality in Cornwall. He has published 3 books about Cornwall. In Parliament, he has served on the Agriculture Select Committee. He is Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Asthma and Vice Chair of the All Party Groups on Fisheries, Family Farms and Objective One.
