LOWERMOOR INQUIRY: KEY QUESTIONS UNANSWERED
In a joint statement, North Cornwall’s former and current MPs responded today (Monday) to news that the Committee of Toxicity Inquiry into the Lowermoor Water Poisoning incident had closed.
Lord Tyler, MP for the constituency between 1992 and 2005, said:
“The fact that the official group now accepts that vital questions were never previously addressed, and the concerns of victims never properly investigated, vindicates our original campaign for the Lowermoor inquiry to be undertaken.
“That key questions remain to be answered merely underlines how outrageous the original cover-up was, and how difficult it is – now – to get at the truth, after nearly twenty years."
Dan Rogerson, North Cornwall’s MP since 2005, added:
“Given the very considerable turnover of population in North Cornwall since the incident, monitoring for definitive conclusions has been made all the more difficult but there is nonetheless clear evidence that those in the area at the time have suffered common symptoms.
“Since the Conservative Ministers responsible for the water privatisation programme (notably Michael Howard) are still in Parliament, the Government should be demanding to know why this investigation was not set in motion immediately after the water poisoning incident.”
