CHANCE OF SUCCESS
As we have seen the time allotted for Private Members Bills legislation is minimal – just thirteen days in the Parliamentary year. It is therefore not surprising that the majority of Private Members Bill never make it into law.
Of course some Private Members Bills do make it in to law, but whether they do or not they remain an excellent way for MPs, Peers and Campaign Groups to make a strong point that will be heard at the highest level.
This process invites input from interested members of the public. You can suggest suitable subjects for legislation to MPs who come high in the ballot, or make a contribution to the ongoing debates on the Bills chosen, especially if you live in the constituency of the MP promoting a Bill.
