Paul Tyler MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Leader of the House of Commons, today called on the Government to make a clear statement on the future of House of Lords reform.
Mr Tyler said:
“As good democrats, the Prime Minister and the Lord Chancellor must accept defeat for their preferred option of an appointed House of Lords.
“It would be constitutionally improper to ask MPs on the Joint Committee to work up proposals along those lines
“The Government must now make a clear statement of their intentions to fulfil their promise for a democratic second chamber, and we need a new remit for the Joint Committee, otherwise that committee must simply wind itself up.”
